REGIS COLLEGE ADVANCES TO CHAMPIONSHIP GAME OF PARK LODGE TOURNAMENT

WESTON, Mass.—Regis College would open game one of the Park Lodge Tournament with a 62-48 win over Westfield State. The loss drops Westfield State University to 3-5, while Regis College improves to 6-2 overall. The win also advances Regis College to the championship game on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. to face the winner of the Wheaton versus Thomas.

The Owls opened with an 8-0 run, before Regis' Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass./Abington) hit consecutive three-pointers to pull Regis College within two points. Michael Fernandes (Granby, Mass./Granby) gave the Pride the first lead of the game at 9-8 on his own three-point basket with 12:13 on the clock.

Lee Vasquez (Attleboro, Mass.) tied the game 13-13 with a three-pointer from the left wing. A missed three by Vasquez led Regis College to go up four when freshman Robert Edwards (Idaho Falls, Idaho/Philips Exeter) scored on a hook shot from the low block.

Regis College jumped to the largest lead of the first half going up 13-points on a Kandley Val (Boston, Mass./Cathedral) tip-in with 3:30 remaining on the clock. The Pride would run out the clock, and defensively hold Westfield State to just 17 first half points.

Westfield State held the advantage in rebounds 16-11 going into intermission. Through the first half of play Regis held a 45.8 shooting percentage from the floor, while holding the Owls to just shy of 36 percent.

Neal and Alibrandi would open the second half with a three-pointer and lay-up to put the Pride up 10. Westfield State's Matt Devine and Jesse Benoit (Granby, Mass.) would each tally baskets to chip at the Regis College lead. Although Regis College was up double digits, the Owls offense continued to attack the interior of the Pride defense.

Benoit helped close the gap with a 10-foot jumper assisted by Devine. Westfield State's consistent post play cut the Regis College advantage to just six points. Benoit would convert a basket on a foul committed by Regis' LaQuinn Shuler (White Plains, NY/Valhalla) to pull within four (37-33).

Marcellus Lee (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) scored his sixth points of the game on shot from the right block, but Chambers would answer with a three-pointer to keep Regis' lead intact with 9:14 remaining.

Darrin Kelley (South Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) forced a turnover at 5:00 to swing momentum in Regis' favor. Devin would find himself at the line to convert two free throws, but only converted 1-of-2.

Vasquez would also turn a score into a possible score plus free-throw situation, but miss his attempt. Kelley again gave Regis College a spark forcing a Vasquez turnover, and scoring six points in less than a minute off of consecutive three-pointers.

Devine, causing his fifth foul, put Phil Alibrandi (York, Maine/York) on the line to shoot the one-and-one bonus. Alibrandi would convert both to put Regis College up 11 (59-48), with less than a minute remaining in the second half.

Kelley would take the free-throw line making 1-of-2, with Alibrandi getting the offensive rebound. The Pride would continue to run out the clock to take the game.
