BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Seven
different players found their way into the scoring column as the
University of New England defeated Regis College, 13-0, in The
Commonwealth Coast Conference field hockey action Saturday
afternoon at the the Big Blue Turf.
With their fourth consecutive win overall, the Nor'easters (7-4)
improve to 5-1 in TCCC games. The Pride fall to 4-9 on the season
(1-4 TCCC) with the loss. It was the sixth straight time Big Blue
has topped Regis.
UNE senior Michaela Franey (York, Maine) had herself a
record-setting day, tallying six goals to go along with three
assists for a total of 15 points. She broke her own single-game
goals mark (4) set earlier this season against Salve Regina, and
broke the single-game points record of 2007 (9) which had been
previously held by Nicole Mace '09.
Franey's performance also moved her career point total (84) past
Lisa Baillargeon '08 into second place all-time.
Junior Michelle Oswald (Jay, Maine) notched two goals and two
assists in support, and first-year Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley,
N.Y.) added a goal to go with a pair of assists.
First-years Casey Clark (Franconia, N.H.) and Kelsea Beisaw (Jay,
Maine) each scored one and helped on another, while first-year
Brittany Liptak (Westfield, Mass.) and senior Bri Youland (Turner,
Maine) accounted for the rest of the scoring.
UNE senior Ayla Nelson (Auburn, Mass.) did not have to make a save
in goal, as the Nor'easters out-shot their opponents, 44-1.
For Regis, which hosts New England College Tuesday, first-year
goalkeeper Morgan Mitchell (Ashburnham, Mass.) recorded 18 saves in
the losing effort.
Big Blue is back in action the same day, when it entertains UMaine
Farmington in a non-conference match beginning at 4 p.m.
