WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) Athletic Department held its annual Athletic Awards Ceremony on Friday evening in the Casey Theater on campus. Student-athletes from each of the university’s 18 varsity teams were honored for their achievements both academically and athletically over the past year.
Matt Norton (Weymouth, Mass.) and Allison Caloggero (Medford, Mass.) took home the highest honors of the evening, receiving the prestigious Male and Female Mother Regis-Casserly Awards. The award, given annually in honor of Sister Mary Regis Casserly, one of the founders of Regis, is given to a male and a female from the senior class that has excelled not only in athletics, but who shows evidence of academic excellence by maintaining an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher and is involved in the life of the university by showing excellence in leadership and service.
Regis President Dr. Antoinette M. Hays presented Norton and Caloggero with their awards.
Norton, a member of both the men’s cross country and track and field teams, leaves the program holding six school records in outdoor track and five school records in indoor track. Additionally, Norton has qualified for the New England Championships in the 600 meter and 800 meter runs. In his cross country career, he was an All-Conference selection on two occasions, winning the NECC Rookie of the Year as a freshman. When not running for the Pride, Norton is one of the most recognizable faces on campus. He serves as a Pride Guide for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and is the current Student Government President. He holds a 3.06 overall GPA and will be graduating with a degree in public health.
Caloggero is a four-year member of the Pride softball team. She served as the team’s captain as both a junior and a senior and is a two-time NECC All-Conference Selection. Earlier this season, she joined the program’s 100-hit club and now ranks in the top-10 all time in career hits. Off the field, Caloggero has been an active member in several campus organizations in a leadership capacity. She served this year as the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee after being the vice president as a junior. She is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society and the Delta Epsilon Sigma Honor Society. She has also served as a writer for Regis Odyssey Online during her four years at Regis. Caloggero holds a cumulative grade point average of 3.83 and will graduate with a degree in communications.
The Pride’s eight New England Collegiate Conference championships, dating back to the spring of 2016, were honored on the evening, as were the Pride’s seven NECC Tournament Most Valuable Player awards, 36 All-Tournament Team selections, 33 All-NECC First Team selections, 14 Second Team selections and six Third Team selections.

The Judith W. Burling Team Award for Academic Excellence was presented to the women’s basketball team. The award is given annually to the varsity team with the highest weighted team cumulative grade point average, and is named in honor of former Regis Director of Athletics Judith W. Burling, who, for over 20 years, dedicated herself to pursuing academic as well as athletic excellence for Regis student-athletes.
