Six Regis Student-Athletes Receive NECC Weekly Honors

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – It was a fruitful week for the Regis (Mass.) Pride athletics teams, resulting in in six student-athletes receiving weekly honors by the New England Collegiate Conference. From women's tennis, Jessie Lord and Carly Scanlon received Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, men's soccer's Derek Triana and women's volleyball's Rachel Bartels earned Player of the Week honors, and field hockey's Ashley Chipman and women's soccer's Noelle Garcia took home the Rookie of the Week Award for their respective sports.

In the women's tennis team's only match of the week, Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) won at No. 1 doubles in straight sets and at No. 2 singles. Lord was an important factor in the NECC win over Lesley, 9-0. In the same match, rookie Carly Scanlon (Canton, Mass.) won at No. 3 doubles and straight sets and at No. 4 singles. Scanlon wins helped Regis to beat Lesley 9-0 in NECC play.

Sophomore Derek Triana (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) of the Regis men's soccer team started the week scoring two first half goals to help Regis to a 3-0 win over Emerson. Triana then continued his week with a goal and adding an assist in a big NECC win over Newbury 2-0. The sophomore had the game-winning goal in each of the contests to lead Regis to a 2-0 week.

Rachel Bartels (Edinburg, Texas) of the women's volleyball team led the Pride to a 3-0 week as she posted double figures in kills in two of the team's three matches. The sophomore hit at a .368 clip against UMass Dartmouth and .440 against Bay Path. Bartels added six blocks versus MCLA, finishing the week with eight total blocks.

Regis field hockey's Ashley Chipman (Stoughton, Mass.) had a breakout week for the Pride. The rookie scored the game-winning goal against Anna Maria on Tuesday. She followed up her first collegiate goal by tallying another in her team's conference win over Bay Path on Saturday.

Finally, Regis women's soccer's Noelle Garcia (Los Angeles, Calif.) allowed no goals in two games on the week. The defender-turned-goalkeeper came on in the 36th minute against Rhode Island and held RIC scoreless through regulation and OT while recording nine saves. The freshman then started the conference match against Mitchell and posted another shutout through the full 90 minutes.

Each of the student-athletes' teams return to action, starting with Garcia's women's soccer team traveling to Emerson and Bartels' women's volleyball team traveling to Becker on Tuesday night.
