REGIS 3, FISHER 0 (25-6, 25-10, 25-14):
Offensively, Robert Burch (Coxsackie, N.Y.) led the Pride with nine kills and a .438 hitting percentage, while Francesco Buanne (Caserta, Italy.) finished with eight kills and a .462 hitting percentage. Nine different players earned at least one service ace as the Pride combined for 18 service aces.
Regis opened the match with 10 straight points and then put together two runs of three straight points, one single point, six unanswered points, and another straight point to close out the first set 25-6.
Regis eventually clinched the second set on back-to-back kills from Aedan Petrocelli (Lincroft, N.J.) and John Nangle (Lowell, Mass.). to close out the second set with a 9-1 run, leading 25-10.
The Pride stayed close with the Falcons at the start of the third and final set; however, consistent kills from the Pride and errors by the Falcons increased the Pride's advantage. After leading 18-8 with a 6-0 run, Fisher inched back with a 4-5 run but was unable to make a comeback as the Pride finished the set with a 25-14 victory.
Younes Sulieman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) collected 16 assists, followed by Santiago Garcia (Guaynabo, P.R.) with 15 assists.
MIT 3, Regis 1 (25-20, 16-25, 22-25, 16-25):
A 5-0 Regis run featuring kills from Eddie Djatcha (Lowell, Mass.) and Brandon Valdes (Miami, Fla.) clinched a lead that the Pride would not relinquish. The Engineers met Regis at an even 14-14 after an attack error; however, MIT was unable to take the lead as a 5-1 run, with two kills from Valdes and multiple attack errors by the Engineers, provided insurance for the Pride to complete the first set with a 25-20 win.
MIT opened up the second set with the first two points due to errors by the Pride. Regis responded with a 5-2 run to tie the match at five. Both teams went point for point until the Engineers went on a 10-3 scoring run, advancing by seven points at 17-10. MIT extended its lead thanks to kills from Grant Oh and attack errors by the Pride, clinching the second set 25-16.
After opening with a 5-1 lead for the Pride, MIT put together a 9-1 run to lead 10-6. Consistent kills from Valdes brought the Pride within one point at 18-17; however, MIT advanced for a close 25-22 victory, extending the match to four sets.
MIT raced out to a 5-1 lead on a service ace, with an additional 4-0 run capped by an ace, giving the Engineers a 13-5 advantage. Regis crept back with a 3-0 run to make it a 20-14 match, but back-to-back kills from Hansen Fan and Riley Oh gave the Engineers a 25-16 win for the fourth and final set.
Regis (2-3, 0-1 GNAC) is scheduled to travel to face Endicott College on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 7:00 p.m.
