Cowden Delivers Record Setting Performance At ECAC's

WESTFIELD, Mass.Kate Cowden (Wilmington, Mass.) delivered a record setting performance for the Regis (Mass.) track and field team to close the season, placing second in the discus competition in the ECAC Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Thursday at Gravel Track.

Cowden's toss of 38.50 meters was a new personal best and set a new program record. The performance was quite an improvement from one season ago where she placed ninth in the same competition with a toss nearly two meters shy of today's record setting performance.

In the shot put, freshman ChiChi Akanegbu (North Easton, Mass.) placed eighth in her first ECAC competition with a finals throw of 11.46 meters.

On the track front, sophomore Keegan Duguay (Watertown, Mass.) placed fifth in the 100 meter hurdles (15.76 meters).

Cowden's sensational performance stole the show for the Pride, but all three participants earned All-ECAC honors to round out a quality 2016-17 for the Regis track and field team.

Winning the women's team competition was Misericordia with Farmingdale taking home the title on the men's side.

With all three returning next season, the Pride will have high expectations for the 2017-18.
