Regis Closes Regular Season Hosting Annual Pride Invitational

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's and women's track and field teams capped their regular season on competition on Sunday with the annual Pride Invitational at Regis Stadium. During the event the Pride honored seniors Joe Greco (Oxford, Conn.), Jonathan Paul (Medford, Mass.), Alex Tran(Lawrence, Mass.), Amanda Iandoli (Mansfield, Mass.) and Rachel Wood (Manchester, N.H.) in a special ceremony.

Eight field events were held beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by 13 track events which got underway at 11:00 a.m. Lesley, Newbury, Southern Vermont, Massasoit CC, Rhode Island CC, Southern New Hampshire, Maine-Presque Isle, St. Joseph's and Emmanuel were among the schools competing.

The Pride put together a handful of successful performances including a win in the 4 x 400 relay race. The Regis team of Greco, Paul, Matt Malone (West Roxbury, Mass.) and Matt Norton (Weymouth, Mass.) won with a time of 3:37.57 nearly seven seconds ahead of second-place Lesley. On the women's side, the Pride won the 4 x 800 relay (11:35.45) ran by the team of Iandoli, Wood, Sarah Backholm (Sutton, Mass.) and Nicole Church (Apex, N.C.) nearly 20 seconds ahead of second-place Elms.

Frank Pelleteri (Freeport, Maine) took home gold in the men's shot put (22.74) and Daniel LaFlamme(Watertown, Conn.) did the same in the discus throw (31.14). Julia Haselhun (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Fatima St. Hilaire (Dorchester, Mass.) finished 1-2 in the women's triple jump and Molly Curtin (Brockton, Mass.) placed second in the women's 5000-meter (20:01.59).

Regis is back in action next weekend when select qualifying team members will travel to Springfield, Mass. For the New England DIII Championships which runs from May 5-7.
