COWDEN QUALIFIES FOR NEW ENGLANDS AT SMITH

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Pioneer Invitational hosted by Smith College Saturday morning.

Sophomore thrower Kate Cowden (Wilmington, Mass.) qualified for the New England Championships with a throw of 10.79 in the shot put event. Cowden also placed third overall in the event. On the track Sarah Backholm (Sutton, Mass.) set a new personal record in the 1,500 meter run with a finishing time of 5:38.66.

For the Pride men, junior Matt Norton (Weymouth, Mass.) set a new personal and school record in the men's 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:21.47 good enough for fifth place in the event. Freshman thrower Taylor Garner (Richmond, Vt.) placed second in the hammer throw event with a distance of 36.99 which was a new personal and school record.

Regis returns to the track next week when they travel to Fitchburg State for a 10:00 a.m. meet
