REGIS COMPETES AT SMITH

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Regis College track and field teams competed at the Beynon Invitational hosted by Smith College on Saturday morning.

For the men, freshman thrower Taylor Garner (Richmond, Vt.) broke the recent school record in the weight throw set by Paul Gionfriddo with a throw of 11.94 meters. Garner also improved in his mark in 5-of-6 total throws. Freshman Matthew Malone (West Roxbury, Mass.) set a school record in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.86. Ray Grasso (Orange, Mass.) finished second and set the program mark in the triple jump with a distance of 12.94 meters.

On the women's side, sophomore jumper Julia Haselhun (Carlsbad, Calif.) placed second in the long jump, set the school record and qualified for ECAC's with a distance of 4.97 meters. Keegan Duguay (Watertown, Mass.) set the program mark in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.84. Jennifer Marra (Groveland, Mass.) set a personal record in the shot put with a distance of 9.62 meters and Cassandra Froio (Tewksbury, Mass.) set personal records in two events.

Regis returns to the track next week as they head to Cambridge to take part in the MIT invite at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
