PRIDE COMPETE AT PIONEER INVITATIONAL

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Regis College track & field team competed in the Pioneer Invitational on the campus of Smith College on Saturday.

On the women's side Rachel Mandeville (Woburn, Mass.) finished 13th in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 5:42.61. Freshman sprinter Kerri Jones (Uxbridge, Mass.) placed 12th out of 41 competitors in the 200 meter dash by finishing the race in 29.82.

In the field events, freshman thrower Kate Cowden (Wilmington, Mass.), earned a fourth place finish in the shot put with a throw of 9.18 meters. Freshman Ayesha Malhi (Merrimac, Mass.) placed seventh in the discus throw with a distance of 27.27 meters.

For the men, Sam Mildrum (Hingham, Mass.) defeated Jeremy Shriber from Lasell in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 36:32.63. Jeremy Israel (Randolph, Mass.) took home first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 52.36. Sprinter Chandler Davies (Hartford, Conn.) placed seventh out of 26 competitors in the 100 meter dash finishing the event in 11.60. Israel and Davies finished behind each other in the 200 meter dash with times of 23.94 and 24.21. Ray Grasso (Orange, Mass.) defeated Matt Donlon of Castleton State in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 58.47.

In the field events, senior thrower Paul Gionfriddo (Burlington, Conn.), placed fourth in the shot put with a throwing distance of 12.72. He also finished in third place in the discus with a distance of 38.75. Matt Norton (Weymouth, Mass.) took home first place in the high jump with a height of 1.83 meters. Norton participated in the javelin throw and threw it 39.80 meters which was good for sixth place. Ray Grasson rounded out a strong day in the field for the Pride with a first place finish in the triple jump with distance of 13.11 meters.

Both squads return to action next weekend at the MIT invite at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
