PRIDE COMPETE AT TUFTS STAMPEDE

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College Men's and Women's Track & Field Team competed in the Tufts Stampede Saturday afternoon in Medford, Mass. hosted Tufts University.

The Pride women posted several strong performances in numerous events. Junior sprinter Diana Tran (Somerville, Mass.) earned a personal best time of 1:13.21 in the 400 meter dash. Six Regis athletes competed in the 800 meter dash including freshman Rachel Mandeville (Woburn, Mass.), who won her heat and posted the fastest time (2:47) of her teammates. Sophomore Kylie Homem (Peabody, Mass.), freshman Zaria Powell (Framingham, Mass.) and sophomore Caroline Haidul posted strong performances in the 200 meter dash.

On the men's side, one school record was broke and two were tied in the field events. Junior jumper Ray Grasso (Orange, Mass.) shattered his own school record in the triple jump with a distance of 12.89 meter, which was also good enough to qualify him for the Division III New England Championships. Senior thrower Paul Gionfriddo (Burlington, Conn.) tied his own school record in the shot put by throwing it 13.35 meters. Sophomore jumper Matt Norton (Weymouth, Mass.) tied his own school record in the high jump event with a height of 1.78 meters. Freshman Ryan Richards (Pembroke, Mass.) also competed in the shot put event and ended up with a distance of 12.76 meters and on the track junior sprinter Joe Greco (Oxford, Conn.) placed seventh in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.04 seconds.

Both teams return to action next Saturday when the Pride head back to Tufts to compete in the Tufts Invitational with start time set for 11:00 a.m.
