PRIDE COMPETE AT TUFTS INVITE

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis College Men's and Women's Track & Field Team competed in their first event of the new year on Saturday afternoon as the Pride traveled into Medford, Mass. to compete against twenty other schools as Tufts University hosted the Tufts Invitational.

On the men's side the 4x200 relay team of Jeremy Israel (Randolph, Mass.), Jai Pandit (Parkland, Fla.), Joe Greco (Oxford, Conn.) and Ray Grasso (Orange, Mass.) shattered the previous school record with a time of 1:36. Israel and Pandit also had success in other events they participated in as well. Israel placed 2nd in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.87 while Pandit ran the 60 meter dash in 7.64.

In the field events, Paul Gionfriddo (Burlington, Conn.) finished 10th of 45 athletes in the shot put as he threw it 13.19 meters. Matt Norton (Weymouth, Mass.) competed in the high-jump competition and put up a mark of five feet, eight inches.

On the women's side, three athletes competed in the 800 meter run. Freshman Rachel Mandeville (Woburn, Mass.) was the best Pride finisher in the race finishing with a time of 2:49. Teammates Molly Curtin (Brockton, Mass.) and Alexa Lucas (Melrose, Mass.) finshed close behind her with times of 2:52 and 2:53. Rounding out the track events was freshman Zaria Powell (Framingham, Mass.)who finished the 60 meter dash in 8.80 seconds.

In the field events, freshman standout Kate Cowden (Wilmington, Mass.) finished 9th of 42 athletes, and broke her own previous school record in the shot put event with a mark of 10.34 meters. Also competing in the shot put event was freshman Ayesha Malhi (Merrimac, Mass.), who finished close behind Cowden with a mark of 9.31 meters.

Both teams return to action next Saturday when the Pride travel to Smith College in Northhampton, Mass. for the Smith College Invitational with the start time set for 11:00 a.m.
