REGIS TRACK OPENS AT UMASS BOSTON INVITE

BOSTON, Mass. - The Regis College men's and women's track and fields team kicked off their 2014-15 campaign at the UMass Boston Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass.

On the men's side, Jeremy Israel (Randolph, Mass.) qualified for the New England Championships in the 400m dash with a time of 51.33. Israel and Joe Greco (Oxford, Conn.) posted the top two times for the Pride in the 200m dash, winning both their heats at 23.88 and 24.00, respectively. Greco also added a time of 53.32 in the 400m dash, with Matt Norton (Weymouth, Mass.) finishing right behind him at 53.61.

Sam Mildrum (Hingham, Mass.) completed his first collegiate 800m dash in 2:18.62, with Sean LaPrise (Medford, Mass.) right behind him at 2:26.76. Matt Mona (Barkhampsted, Conn.) ran the 5K in 17:06.33.

The 4x400 relay team of Ray Grasso (Orange, Mass.), Joe Greco, Matt Norton, and Jeremy Israel placed 10th with a time of 3:36.97. Grasso completed the triple jump with a distance of 11.89m.

Paul Gionfriddo (Burlington, Conn.) qualified for the New England Championships in the shot put with a distance of 13.35m. Ryan Richards (Pembroke, Mass.) was two places behind him, throwing a distance of 12.93m.

For the women, Zaria Powell (Framingham, Mass.) ran her first collegiate 60 meter dash in 8.80 seconds, while captain Diana Tran (Somerville, Mass.) was the next best finisher for the Pride at 9.05 seconds. Powell and Tran were the top two finishers for Regis in the 200m dash as well, both coming in second in their heats with Powell coming in at 29.91 and Tran at 30.78.

Kerri Jones (Uxbridge, Mass.) ran her first 400m dash, finishing at 1:07.12, while Mikayla Mooney (Guilford, Conn.) and Alexa Lucas (Melrose, Mass.) both ran in the 800m dash, finishing with times of 2:47.84 and 2:56.40, respectively. Molly Curtin (Brockton, Mass.) finished the 3K with a time of 12:21.85, with Kylie Homem (Peabody, Mass.) rounding out the track events in the 60m hurdles with a time of 12.24.

Kate Cowden (Wilmington, Mass.) and Ayeesha Malhi (Merrimac, Mass.) both took part in their first throws events for the Pride, with Cowden posting a distance of 9.34m and Malhi throwing an 8.86m.

Both teams are off until after the New Year, when Regis travels to Tufts University on January 17th for the Tufts Invite.
