MCLAUGHLIN WINS TUFTS 5K

MEDFORD, Mass. - The Regis College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Tufts Invite on Saturday afternoon. The Regis women placed tenth, while the men finished in 11th.

Freshman distance runner Siobhan McLaughlin (Derry, N.H.) highlighted the days performances with a first place finish in the 5000m. McLaughlin crossed the finish line in 19:42.43, nearly nine full seconds faster than the next finisher. 

Senior Tori Rapsis (Nashua, N.H.) had a solid day as well on the women's side, as she placed third in the pole vault after clearing 2.90m.

Sophomore Matt Owens (Boston, Mass.) had the best finish of the day for the Pride men after taking fourth place in the 200m in a time of 23.56.  

Sophomore Ray Grasso (Orange, Mass.) was sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 12.31m. Freshman Matt Norton (Weymouth, Mass.) and junior Paul Gionfriddo (Burlington, Conn.) each placed eighth in the 800m and shot put, respectively. Norton recorded a time of 2:05.93 in the 800, a personal best, while Gionfriddo threw a distance of 12.78 in the shot put.

The Pride will return to action next Saturday with the MIT Invite, which is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.
