REGIS OPENS 2013 AT UMASS BOSTON INVITE

BOSTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's and women's track and field teams opened their 2013-14 campaigns at the 2013 UMass Boston Indoor Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass.

On the men's side, Matt Owens (Boston, Mass.) picked up from where he left off a year ago as he placed 10th in both the 60 and 200 meter dash with times of 7.21 and 23.18. Don Gomez (Lynn, Mass.) ran a 7.39 in the 60 meter dash in his first collegiate race, and added a time of 24.08 in the 200 meter dash. Jeremy Israel (Boston, Mass.) posted a time of 24.63 in the 200.

Israel came in ninth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:03.66 and Matt Norton (Weymouth, Mass.) was only seconds behind him with a time of 2:07.55. In the triple jump, Ray Grasso (Orange, Mass.) posted a distance of 12.05m, good for a sixth place finish. Paul Gionfriddo (Burlington, Conn.) finished in the top 10 in the shot put with a distance of 12.91m.

For the women, Santi Strickland (Holbrook, Mass.) ran the 60 meter dash in 8.76 and Diana Tran (Somerville, Mass.) was right behind her at 8.99. Strickland added a time of 28.81 in the 200 meter dash as well.

Cross country stand-out Siobhan McLaughlin (Derry, N.H.) finished seventh in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 11:12.13. Kylie Homem (Peabody, Mass.) ran the 60 meter hurdles in 12.65.

Both teams return to action in 2014 as the Pride travels to Tufts University on January 18 for a meet at 10:00 a.m.
