Women Conclude GNAC Championships with Several League Awards

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Regis College women's swimming and diving team earned several more podium finishes as it placed fourth at the 2024 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Swimming and Diving Championships, concluding Sunday at the WPI Sports and Recreation Center.

Olivia Luhnau (Castle Rock, Colo.) touched the wall 1/100th of a second ahead of her nearest competitor to finish second in the 50 breaststroke in 33.71 seconds. In the same event, Abby Parker (Peru, Mass.) finished in fifth place with a time of 36.04 seconds, and Jenna Silva (New Bedford, Mass.) finished fifth in the B-final (13th overall) in 40.85 seconds.

Ava Hubster (Crown Point, Ind.) became the 13th swimmer in Regis history to break the 20-minute mark in the 1650 freestyle, earning All-GNAC honors with a third place finish in 19:54.47. Davinity Smallwood (Naugatuck, Conn.) placed seventh with a time of 21:29.87, and Vera Rivard (Springfield, N.H.) finished in 10th place in 22:49.56.

Megan Miller (Quincy, Mass.) and Riley Aptt (Woburn, Mass.) finished 2-3 in the 100 backstroke, with Miller posting a time of 1:04.34, just ahead of Aptt's time of 1:04.41. Kaylee King (Norwell, Mass.) finished seventh in the B-final (15th overall) of the 100 backstroke in 1:17.95 after earlier placing sixth in the B-final (14th overall) in the 100 freestyle in 1:06.65.

Rivard finished eighth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 3:06.09 after qualifying for the A-final with a preliminary time of 3:04.88. Miller, Parker, Hubster, and Luhnau concluded the meet with a third place finish in the 400 medley relay with an overall time of 4:32.35.

As a team, the Pride finished fourth overall with 509.5 points, with Norwich University taking the team title with 894.5 points. Head coach Diana Matthews was voted GNAC Women's Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year by her peers, and the Regis College women's swimming and diving team received the Institutional Sportsmanship Award. Aptt was selected to the GNAC Women's Swimming and Diving All-Sportsmanship Team.

In total, the Regis College women earned one individual title (Luhnau in the 100 IM) and seven All-GNAC awards over the weekend.
