Pride Swim & Dive Sweeps Albertus Magnus

WESTON, Mass. - Hitting the home stretch on the 2023-24 season, the Regis College swimming and diving team swept a dual meet from Albertus Magnus College, winning on both the men's (60-12) and women's (113-55) sides Friday night at the Regis Pool.

The women were led by senior Megan Miller (Quincy, Mass.) and junior Olivia Luhnau (Castle Rock, Colo.) with three individual event wins apiece. Luhnau finished first in the 200 freestyle in 2:15.85, the 50 breaststroke in 36.14 seconds, and the 100 freestyle in 1:02.61. Miller touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly with a personal season-best time of 1:11.00, the 200 backstroke in 2:28.54, and the 100 individual medley in 1:10.98, also a personal season-best mark.

Ava Hubster (Crown Point, Ind.) collected two event wins, finishing first in the 1000 freestyle in 12:27.74 and the 500 freestyle in 6:11.18. Riley Aptt (Woburn, Mass.) also earned two victories, posting first place finishes in the 50 backstroke in 32.78 seconds and the 50 butterfly in 31.34 seconds.

For the men, Samuel Madriz (Union, N.J.) came close to his personal season-best marks twice with times of 59.10 seconds in the 100 butterfly and 27.01 seconds in the 50 butterfly. Cody Werner (Bettendorf, Iowa) also came close on his personal season-best time in the 100 individual medley with a mark of 1:01.82, while Aryaman Nagaraj (Watertown, Mass.) completed the 50 freestyle in 23.85 seconds and led off the 200 medley relay with a 50 back split of 28.55 seconds.

In the closest race of the night, Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.) prevailed in the 200 freestyle by less than a half-second with a time of 2:03.18. Liam Austin (Boston, Mass.) finished first in both one meter diving events with scores of 153.90 for five dives and 204.65 for six dives, while Michael Zammuto (Burlington, Mass.) posted a five-dive score of 126.90 and a personal season-best six-dive score of 152.30.

Regis College closes the regular season at home against Elms College next Saturday, Jan. 20, starting at 11 a.m. Before the meet, Grace Heffernan (Winchester, Mass.), Madriz, and Miller will be recognized in a Senior Day presentation.
