Pride Women’s Swim & Dive Cruises to Dual Meet Win

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's swimming and diving team posted the best mark in 14 of 15 events as it defeated Elms College, 176-82, Saturday afternoon in a dual meet at the Regis Aquatics Center.

Eight different women earned the best time or score in at least one event, including four Pride swimmers posting the top time in two events. Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.) won the 50 backstroke by over three seconds with a time of 29.14 seconds, and then she posted a personal best time of 2:25.97 in the 200 individual medley.

Julia Burke (North Andover, Mass.) led a 1-2-3 finish in the 50 breaststroke, winning in 34.78 seconds, followed by Kyleigh Boatwright (Roseville, Calif.) in 35.53 seconds and Lindsey Bone (Rosenberg, Texas) in 36.80 seconds. Later in the meet, Burke swam the 100 breaststroke in a season-best time of 1:15.25 to lead another 1-2-3 finish for the Pride, as Hayley Ferguson (Billerica, Mass.) finished second in 1:21.18 and Bone placed third in 1:23.03.

Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.) finished first in the 50 freestyle in 26.26 seconds as Regis took the top three places, with Amy Collins (Hanson, Mass.) officially finishing second in 28.92 seconds and Gloria Sutton (Suffield, Conn.) taking third in 29.26 seconds. Zernitsky also won the 50 butterfly in 29.28 seconds, followed by Katherine Mariano (Newton, Mass.) in second in 30.12 seconds.

Boatwright posted the fastest time in the 100 freestyle at 58.40 seconds, and then she quickly recovered to touch the wall first in the 100 backstroke by almost three full seconds with a time of 1:06.35. Sutton finished first in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 19:46.00, Alexa Lancisi (Milford, Mass.) won the 100 butterfly in 1:04.82, and Thalia Bowie (Lexington, Mass.) posted the fastest time in the 500 freestyle with a season-best mark of 5:41.85.

To save time, the one-meter diving events were combined into one 11-dive session, with Elisabeth McQuaid (Marlborough, Mass.) posting a score of 401.00, followed by Lancisi at a season-best 259.95.

The quartet of Leonard, Burke, Lancisi, and Collins started the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 2:00.55. Lila Williams (East Bridgewater, Mass.), Sutton, Leonard, and Mariano capped the meet by setting a new pool record in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 8:53.12, breaking the old mark by over one full minute.

Before the meet, seniors Meghan Caggiano (Quincy, Mass.), Mariano, Jennifer Marra (Groveland, Mass.), and Williams were honored by their coaches and teammates in a Senior Day presentation.

Regis (7-3) now prepares for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships, to be hosted by Simmons University in Boston Friday, Feb. 1 through Sunday, Feb. 3.
