Men's and Women's Swimming Both Victorious in Three-Team Meet

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) men's and women's swimming and diving teams were a perfect three for three on the afternoon, with the Pride men picking up a 144-118 win over Bridgewater State University, and the women taking down the Bears and Eastern Connecticut State University.

"We did an amazing job racing today," said head coach James Sweeney. "Everyone really stepped up and it showed in the score against two very good teams. It is very exciting to see so much improvement from just last Saturday, and the support that they gave each other was awesome."

Reigning New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association Swimmer of the Week Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) continued to dominate the pool, winning three events individually on the afternoon. She also served as the final leg in the first event of the day, the women's 200yd medley relay. The Pride relay team, which also included freshman Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.), junior Ashlyn DeRoche (North Reading, Mass.) and freshman Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.) prevailed over Eastern Connecticut State's relay team by a mere 39 hundredths of a second to give the Pride the first lead of day.

On the men's side, the 200yd medley relay was even tighter, as the Regis men's side bested Bridgewater State by just seven hundreths of a second to come away with the early victory. Individually, co-captain Cassidy Bastienelli (Newton, Mass.) led the way for the Pride, winning three events on the afternoon, on top of a win in the 200yd freestyle relay, the day's final event.

The Pride men's and women's teams will be back in the pool next Saturday when they host Gordon College at the Regis Aquatics Center. Bridgewater State will have a Tuesday night meet on the road against Gordon College, while Eastern Connecticut will next take to the pool at the Louise Goodrum Invitational hosted by UMass Dartmouth next Saturday.
