Women's Lacrosse Victorious in Non-Conference Battle

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College came out on top against Fitchburg State, defeating the Falcons, 10-8, Friday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Regis Stadium.

Morgan Pero (Hartford, Vt.) led the Pride offensively with three goals and three assists while Kylee Marley (Westerly, R.I.) added three goals and one assist. Mia Rogers (Revere, Mass.) scored twice while contributing one assist, and Madeline Conover (West Newbury, Mass.) and Krysonia Tavares (Everett, Mass.) each scored one goal.

Regis fired out to a hot start, scoring the first three goals of the game beginning with an early goal by Pero after only 23 seconds of play, assisted by Conover on the play. Marley would go on to score twice in the first quarter, assisted by Retta Hatin (Hooksett, N.H.) and Pero to put the Pride up, 3-0, by the end of the quarter.

Eva Kozikowski scored twice for the Falcons in the second quarter to cut the Pride lead to one (3-2) but, late in the period, Hatin found Tavares who scored to put the Pride up, 4-2, heading into halftime.

Kozikowski, Grace Wetherbee, and Cali Laakso scored three goals straight for Fitchburg State to give the visitors a 5-4 lead halfway through the third. Near the end of the third, Rogers scored twice within 45 seconds (assisted by Pero and Marley) to retake the lead for the Pride while a last second goal by Fitchburg's Delaney Ponder tied the score at 6-6 heading into the final quarter.

Marley and Pero combined for three straight Regis goals to give the home team some breathing room in the fourth while a late score by Conover put the game out of reach for the Falcons, ensuring victory for the Pride.

Daniela Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) earned her fourth win in net for Regis making 13 saves while Alyson Cote had six saves in the loss for Fitchburg State.

Regis College (4-2, 2-2 GNAC) returns to GNAC play with a matchup on the road against Rivier on Sunday, March 26, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Fitchburg State travels to New England College on Saturday, March 25, for a non-conference game starting at 11:00 a.m.
