WESTON, Mass. - Windchills in the low 20s were not enough to stop the Regis (Mass.) women's lacrosse team on Monday afternoon, as the Pride held its first practice of the 2018 season at Regis Stadium.

"I feel it went really well," said sophomore Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.), the Pride's leading scorer last season and the 2017 New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Year. "Usually it's kind of hard, off the bat, to connect the players, but this year we got good ball movement and strong connections."

"(The team) looked good," said head coach Courtney Duggan. "It's easy to get after it when everyone is excited and ready to go."

But while it was the Pride's first official practice of the season, Anselmo believes that offseason workouts helped the team prepare leading up to Monday. "Our fitness is really strong," she said. "In all the captains practices, we've been doing really well."

That offseason work didn't go unnoticed by the Pride coaching staff either. "Clearly the work that they put in in the offseason is coming through on day one," said Duggan.

The regular season is just under a month away, as the Pride will open its 2018 season hosting Framingham State at Regis Stadium on Wednesday, February 28 at 4:00 p.m. Regis plays its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference game three weeks later when the team travels to Johnson & Wales on March 20.
