WINTHROP, Mass. - Senior Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year, highlighting five All-Conference selections for the Regis (Mass.) women's lacrosse team. The announcement came from the conference office on Monday.
Along with the Goalkeeper of the Year selection, Malcolm earned a spot on the GNAC's First Team All-Conference. Sophomore Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.), senior Erin Loehner (Danvers, Mass.), and freshman Rachel Nadeau (Coventry, Conn.) were named to the Second Team All-Conference, while senior Linsay Bumila (Raynham, Mass.) was named to the Third Team All-Conference. Loehner was also named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
Malcolm's save percentage of 51.3 percent ranked second in the GNAC this season, while her 8.52 goals against average ranked third. A one-time recipient of the GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week award, Malcolm was 11-5 in her 16 starts for the Pride this season. It is the second time Malcolm has been named conference Goalkeeper of the Year, but the first time in lacrosse, as she won the New England Collegiate Conference Goalkeeper of the Year award in field hockey in her junior season.
Anselmo had a strong sophomore campaign for the Pride, serving as the team's leading scorer for the second consecutive season. She led the team with 61 goals, 20 assists, and 81 points, while also racking up 34 ground balls, 14 draw controls, and 17 caused turnovers. Anselmo had a trio of six-goal games this season, but a vital five-goal performance in a 9-6 GNAC Quarterfinal win over Saint Joseph's (Me.) on April 28 proved to be her most important output of the season, earning her a spot on the GNAC All-Tournament Team.
Loehner was a crucial part of a Pride defense that allowed the second fewest goals per game in GNAC contests this season. She scooped up 29 ground balls during her senior campaign, while causing 12 turnovers. She finished the season scoring five goals and two assists for seven points, which included a four-goal outing in a win over Elms on March 22.
Nadeau was not only another big part of the stellar Pride defense this season, but also stepped up into the offense with 11 points on the season with eight goals and three assists. The rookie ranked second on the Pride with 19 caused turnovers on the year, while ranking third with 43 ground balls. Her signature performance came in an 8-5 win over Rivier on April 17 that saw her scoop up eight ground balls and two draw controls to go along with two caused turnovers.
Bumila rounds out the Pride's All-Conference selections after leading all Pride field players with 54 ground balls, 37 draw controls, and 33 caused turnovers in her senior season. Bumila also contributed offensively for the Pride, finishing the year with 11 goals and three assists for 14 points. In a 16-3 win over Albertus Magnus on April 14, Bumila recorded her second career five-point game, tallying four goals and an assist in the victory.
The quintet led the Pride to a number four seed in the GNAC Tournament, and combined for six of the nine goals scored in a GNAC Quarterfinal win over Saint Joseph's (Me.). With the win, the women's lacrosse program became the third Pride program to win a head-to-head GNAC Tournament game behind men's soccer and men's tennis.
