VIDEO: WLAX Faces No. 9 Salisbury In NCAA Tournament First Round

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) women's lacrosse team (15-4, 8-0 NECC) opens the 2017 NCAA Tournament with a first-round matchup against ninth-ranked Salisbury University (13-5, 7-1 CAC) Saturday, May 13 at 1:00 p.m. The Pride and Sea Gulls will square off at Steuben Field on the campus of Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. The winner will move on to Sunday's second round matchup versus Hamilton who received a first-round bye along with the host bid.

Regis earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament after rallying to win its fifth straight New England Collegiate Conference Tournament title, a 15-13 victory over Elms this past Saturday at Regis Stadium. This will be the Pride's third straight NCAA appearance and first-ever meeting with Salisbury.

Leading the charge for the Pride is NECC Rookie of the Year and first-team all-conference selection Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.). Anselmo ranked third in the NECC in both goals (62) and assists (20) on the season. In the Pride's 19 games played, Anselmo netted 14 hat tricks, including a pair of six-goal games. Freshman Maddy Rodriguez (Amherst, Mass.), the Pride's other first-team selection, will also play a key role in the NCAA opener having anchored a defense that allowed just 135 goals in 19 games to set a program record for fewest goals allowed in a season.

The Sea Gulls earned an automatic bid into the tournament after winning their 17th overall, and 15th consecutive, Capital Athletic Conference title by defeating top-seeded York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday. Salisbury, which is appearing in its 17th NCAA tournament, is looking to advance to the championship weekend for the 12th time in program history.

The Pride enters the NCAA Tournament for the final time as a representative of the NECC before joining the Great Northeast Athletic Conference this summer. The women's lacrosse team enjoyed five regular season and NECC Tournament titles and boasted a 24-0 league record.
