Women's Lacrosse Falls To Ithaca In NCAA Opening Round

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Regis College Pride women's lacrosse season came to a close on Saturday as the Pride fell to No. 19 Ithaca College 24-2 in the opening round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament at Sheppard Field on the Trinity College (CT) campus. The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Pride which included two wins on the way to a fourth straight NECC tournament title.

The Pride, playing in their second straight NCAA Tournament, end a fine season at 12-7 with Ithaca (14-5) advancing to a second round match up with Trinity on Sunday.

Danika Wagner scored four goals for Ithaca with Allison Panara and Morgan Cadwell both adding three goals.

Despite being overmatched, Regis did strike first when Sam Salamone (Milford, Mass.) took advantage of an early opportunity and scored to put her team up a goal less than two minutes into the game.

The Bombers would respond quickly with Riley Marion assisting and scoring on another goal to put her team up 4-1. Regis kept the score line close when Emily Kosak (Milton, Mass.) scored off a pass from Nicole Roche (Waltham, Mass.) to cut the lead to 4-2.

That would be all for the Pride however as Ithaca's stout defense held Regis scoreless for the rest of the game. IC closed the first half on a 12-0 run as Cadwell, Wagener and Julia Silvestri pumped in two goals apiece to help Ithaca take a 16-2 lead into halftime. The Bombers scored eight goals in a span of 9:18 to pull away and win for the 13th time in 16 games.

Emma Decker (Southborough, Mass.) saw much of the action in front of her goal and tallied 11 saves on the afternoon. Ithaca starter Emily Ross played the first half for the Bombers before being spelled by Kimberly Presuto.
