Regis Comeback Falls Short In 7-6 Loss To Framingham State

WESTON, Mass.Rachel Gagnon (Ashford, Conn.) had a chance to tie the game as time as expired but her free position shot was saved off the line and the Regis College women's lacrosse team's comeback bid fell short in a 7-6 loss to Framingham State in non-conference action Thursday at Regis Stadium.

The Pride (9-6) trailed by five goals early in the second half after Kimberly Foley's (Mansfield, Mass.) score put the Rams ahead 7-2. Regis would begin to chip away though as Mary Roma (Portland, Maine) and Linsay Bumila (Raynham, Mass.) scored within two minutes of each other to shave the lead to 7-4 with 7:44 to play.

Trailing by just two goals, Emma Decker (Southborough, Mass.) came up with a pair of sensational saves late before Gagnon's free position shot beat Ram goalie Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath (Bedford, Mass.) with 45 seconds to play to bring the Pride within a goal. Regis had once chance left but Tree-McGrath came up with the save off Gagnon's attempt to preserve the win.

Regis held the lead only briefly when Roma scored the game's first goal five minutes in. Foley, who had a game-high four goals, scored the equalizer just over two minutes later, then added her second goal late in the half as Framingham State entered the break up 5-1.

Foley then added her fourth and her team's final goal with just over 22 minutes remaining in the game as the Pride hunkered down and mounted their comeback attempt.

Roma and Emily Kosak (Milton, Mass.) both scored a pair of goals for Regis with Kristen Hoggins (Harvard, Mass.) scoring two for the Rams. Decker posted five saves in net for Regis and Tree-McGrath was credited with eight in goal for Framingham State.

Regis next hosts Bay Path for Senior Day this Saturday April 23 at 1:00 p.m. Framingham visits Mass. Maritime for 12:00 p.m. game on Saturday.
