BOSTON, Mass.- Sam Salamone (Milford, Mass.) had a game-high four goals, Nicole Roche (Waltham, Mass.) added three more and the Regis College women's lacrosse team beat Wheelock College, 10-1, in New England Collegiate Conference play on Saturday at Winsor Field, 10-1. Despite a close first half, the Pride pulled away in the second period as they improve to 6-3 (3-0 NECC) while the Wildcats fall to 5-5 (2-1 NECC).

The first half saw the teams locked in a scoreless battle for more than 16 minutes before Regis broke through. With 13:24 remaining in the period, Salamone scored off a free position shot and added another goal with 5:55 on the clock off a feed from rookie attack Taylor Assarian (Arlington, Mass.) to make it 2-0. A minute and a half later, senior defense Mary Roma (Portland, Maine) tacked on another as Regis took a 3-0 lead into the break.

Despite the 3-0 deficit, Wheelock played close in the first half trailing just 12-9 in shots while putting five shots on net and leading 15-11 in ground balls. That momentum appeared to carry over into the second half as the Wildcats got on the board a little over two minutes into the period on a free position shot from rookie midfield Colleen Macdonald (Sandwich, Mass.) to make it 3-1.

Still, with 19:55 to play, Salamone started the Pride off on their game-deciding run. First she scored off a long pass over the top of Wheelock's defense from senior goalie Emma Decker (Southborough, Mass.) before adding a free position goal two minutes later to put Regis up 5-1.

The Pride would pour on five more scores including three consecutive goals by Roche to close out their 10-1 victory.

Wheelock was led by Macdonald who scored her 14th goal of the season while senior attack Emma Marrs (Old Lyme, Conn.) and rookie midfield Georgia Schindele (Sparkill, N.Y.) each put three shots on frame. Sophomore defense Katie Frade (Dartmouth, Mass.) scooped up a game-high six ground balls.

Regis featured three players with multiple points led by Salamone who finished the contest with four goals, an assist, and a team-best four ground balls. Roche netted three scores while Assarian chipped in with a goal and an assist.

The Wildcats' junior goalkeeper Meghan Lewis (South Berwick, Maine) took the loss despite making 14 saves while Emma Decker earned the win for the Pride while stopping nine of the 10 shots she faced.

Regis next heads to Salem State on Tuesday April 12th for a 4:00 p.m. contest while Wheelock returns to action tomorrow when they hit the road to face Maine Maritime with a 2:00 p.m. start.
