WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's lacrosse team suffered a 16-6 loss at the hands of Simmons College on Saturday afternoon in a cold and snowy spring day at Regis Stadium. With the loss the Pride drop to 2-4 on the young campaign and the victory pushes the Sharks to 3-5.

Regis cracked the score column first when junior attack Sierra Luce (Hartford, V.T.) threw a pass in front of the cage to a waiting Sam Salamone (Milford, Mass.). The junior midfielder waited patiently for the pass, received the ball, and cocked back a low shot that found the back of the net. Salamone's early goal gave the Pride a 1-0 advantage.

The Sharks responded by adding four unanswered goals, with junior midfielder Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) scoring three of them.

Simmons knotted the score when Gilbert's shot deflected off a defender and went right past the goalie. Junior midfielder Ashley Sheehan (N. Attleboro, Mass.), scored the game-winning goal after Greer passed Sheehan the ball as she was making a cut towards the net. Sheehan fired a rocket on the top self and gave the sharks a 2-1 lead.

Gilbert's next two goals were directly off draw controls as she ran through midfield, slicing through the Pride defense and depositing both shots past Regis goalie Emma Decker (Southborough, Mass.). Gilbert's two tallies upped the Shark's lead to 4-1.

Regis ended their scoring drought when Sierra Luce cut the deficit down to two goals as she received a pass from Sam Salamone on the goal line and rifled a top shelf shot past goaltender Crystal Derosier (Kingston, Mass.).

The two goal deficit was the closet the Pride would keep the game as Simmons would score five more goals during the first half with two coming from freshman attack Kasey Fries (Bridgewater, Mass.), two from Alexa Faria (Cumberland, R.I.) and another from Greer Gilbert.

Freshman defender Linsay Bumila (Raynham, Mass.) and sophomore attack Danielle Aguinaldo (Malden, Mass.) chipped in for the Pride with goals during the first half. Simmons went into the intermission up 9-4.

The Sharks outscored the Pride 7-2 during the final half of play. Senior midfielder Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) gobbled up a ground ball off a turnover and beat the keeper and Sam Salamone scored on a free position attempt for the only Pride goals of the second half.

Crystal Derosier made 10 saves during the victory and improved to 3-5 on the season. Emma Decker stopped nine shots and dropped to 2-4 with the loss. Greer Gilbert had a huge game as she scored four goals and had five assists. Kasey Fries also scored four goals for the Sharks.

Sam Salamone led the Pride in goals (two), assists (one) and groundballs (eight) during the contest.

The Pride head out on the road for a two game road-trip with the first matchup against New England Collegiate Conference foe Becker College on Tuesday, March 31st with game-time slated for 4:00 p.m.
