POLITIS AND HAIDEMENOS COMMIT TO WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Weston,Mass.--Regis College Head women’s lacrosse coach Liz Conant is proud to announce the commitment of two student athletes for the 2012 lacrosse season. Grace Politis (Billerica, Mass. /Billerica) and Katherine Haidemenos (Warwick, RI/ La Salle Academy) have committed to play for the Pride in the spring of 2012.

Grace Politis was a standout attacker for the Billerica High School lacrosse program. As a senior captain of her Billerica squad, Politis was given the “Most Valuable Player” distinction this spring. Politis’ strong play garnered her MVC All-Conference recognition. She has been playing the sport of lacrosse for 6 years, which includes playing for her high school team, attending local camps, as well as competing for Raptors Lacrosse in Tewksbury during the off-seasons.

During the recruitment process, Head Coach Liz Conant and Assistant Coach Libby Stout were both able to watch her compete in her indoor league during the winter months and again in the spring for her Billerica team. Both coaches were impressed by her lacrosse ability and skill, her field presence and awareness, and her role as a leader on the field. As one of the newest members of the Regis College lacrosse team, Politis will be expected to play a large role in the attack, and she should prove to be a major scoring threat.

Politis has also excelled in the classroom at Billerica High School, and was a 4-year Honor Roll, 2-time SUMA award recipient, Student of the term award, and was 1 of 4 students selected to attend Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. Grace was directly accepted into the Regis College Nursing program. Politis is the daughter of Liz and Ronald Politis, and is the youngest of their three children. Grace has two older brothers, Bill and Andy, who also played lacrosse.

Katherine Haidemenos will be a solid addition to the Regis College women’s lacrosse program.  As the starting goalie for the La Salle Academy Rams, Haidemenos was the anchor of the defense and one of the team captains. In addition to playing on her high school team, Haidemenos also played on the Rhode Island select team, The Metacomets, the summer of both her sophomore and junior years. She also participated in a lacrosse goalie camps around RI. After her junior lacrosse season, Haidemenos received second-team All State recognition, and she was honored as an Academic All-Star her senior year.

After watching Haidemenos tend goal this past spring season for the La Salle Rams, Coach Conant was impressed with her skill, poise and confidence in net. Considering that one of the Regis lacrosse team goalies, Alycia Murray, just graduated in May, it was a priority for Coach Conant to have another capable goalie on the squad. Conant expects that Haidemenos will seamlessly fill that void and she will add skill and experience to the defensive unit.

Growing up in Warwick, Rhode Island, Haidemenos was actively involved in sports and service projects. Building upon those interests, Katie intends to major in Social Work at Regis College. In addition to playing on the women’s lacrosse team, Haidemenos has been invited to join the women’s soccer squad. Coach Conant is excited to work with her in the fall and spring, on the soccer pitch as well as the lacrosse field.
