BUSIEK NAMED 2011 NCAA STATISTICAL CHAMPION FOR GROUND BALLS PER GAME

Weston, Mass.—The NCAA released the 2011 statistical champions for women's lacrosse Tuesday (June 21). Teresa Busiek (Arlington, Mass./Arlington Catholic)was awarded as the NCAA Division III statistical Champion for ground balls per game.

Busiek played in fourteen games for the Pride.  She tallied a total of 87 ground balls and averaged 6.21 per game.  This 6.21 average led both the NCAA and The Commonwealth Coast Conference.

Busiek's freshman season was successful for the Pride. She led the team in total ground balls and total goals on the season.  Busiek's strong play helped the Pride defeat its first conference opponent (Anna Maria College) and set a program record for most wins in a season with 4. Busiek's field presence earned her honorable mention for The Commonwealth Coast Conference All-Conference Team.

Pride head women's lacrosse coach Liz Conant had great things to say about Busiek. "I am so incredibly proud of Teresa. While being first in any NCAA Division III category is impressive, it is particularly notable that she is the ground ball control (GBC) statistical leader. In order to be dominant in the GBC category, a player must have drive, determination, strength and skill. Teresa brings all those qualities to the field every day."

Busiek will look to continue her success on the field for the 2012 season.  She will return as a sophomore for the Pride when the season picks up in early spring.
