MURRAY HAS 11 SAVES IN PRIDE LOSS

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- First-year Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) scored four goals and added four assists to help lead the University of New England to a 17-0 shutout of Regis College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's lacrosse action Tuesday afternoon at the Big Blue Turf.

The victory snaps a five-match losing streak for the Nor'easters, who improve to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play. Regis falls to 1-6, 0-4 in TCCC games.

UNE scored 10 goals in the opening 14 minutes of play before slowing down the tempo and turning to a ball possession game to lead by a 10-0 margin at the half.

Senior Danielle Cate (Boscawen, N.H.), junior Jenna Barton (Wolfeboro, N.H.), and first-year Cassidy Ruocco (Dover, N.H.) added two goals apiece for the Nor'easters, who led in shots (32-8) and ground balls (25-16). First-year Sadie MacLean (Henniker, N.H.) chipped in three assists.

Big Blue also received strong performances from junior Jessy Dvorak (Windsor, Conn.) and sophomore Cara Cole (Norwood, Mass.), who combined for eight ground balls and eight caused turnovers. First-year goalie Samantha St. Pierre (Mechanic Falls, Maine) needed four saves for her first shutout.

For Regis, first-year Teresa Busiek (Arlington, Mass.) finished with five caused turnovers and four ground balls, while senior Alycia Murray (Danvers, Mass.) stopped 11 shots between the pipes.

Each team returns to action with TCCC games Saturday. Regis hosts Colby-Sawyer at noon, while UNE heads to Dudley, Mass. for an 11:30 a.m. match at Nichols College.
