2021-2022 Senior Spotlight - Men’s Volleyball

WESTON, Mass. – Prior to the final regular season home matches of the 2022 season April 2, the seniors within the Regis College men's volleyball team were recognized for their significant contributions to the program.

Kostea Andreenko (Marstons Mills, Mass.) is fourth on the Regis career blocks list with 126 and finished tied for fourth on the single-season blocks list with 76 this past season. He collected 256 career kills, including 146 kills in 2022, and posted a career hitting percentage of .275, fifth-highest in program history. He was named GNAC Defensive Player of the Week twice this season, once after earning eight blocks in a four-set victory over Eastern Nazarene and again after finishing with a career-high nine blocks against SUNY Potsdam. Andreenko collected Third Team All-GNAC honors after leading the league in total blocks. He majored in criminal justice.

Nate Asstafan (Woonsocket, R.I.) appeared in 112 sets within 49 matches during his collegiate career. Earlier this past season, he earned six digs against SUNY Potsdam March 11 as well as four digs and one service ace against NVU Johnson Feb. 5. He started the GNAC Tournament first round match at Elms April 5, earning a service ace and a dig. On Feb. 22, 2020, Asstafan collected a career-high 14 digs along with two service aces during a four-set victory over Eastern Nazarene. He also earned three service aces during a Pride sweep at Bard March 12, 2019. Asstafan received his bachelor's degree in exercise science from Regis.

In 179 sets within 57 matches so far in his collegiate career, Matt Ferrara (Sandown, N.H.) has collected 464 kills, fifth on Regis's all-time kills list. He is also third in career service aces with 59 and 10th in career blocks with 66. Ferrara earned Second Team All-GNAC honors after collecting 262 kills, third-most in a single season, as well as 29 service aces and 135 defensive digs. He was named to the FrogJump Team of the Week March 22 after ending up with 45 kills on 75 attack attempts with just three errors for a .560 hitting percentage. The 2021-22 Male Regis-Casserly Award recipient, Ferrara graduated with his bachelor's degree in nursing.

Brendan Lam (Rockville, Md.) played in 192 sets within 64 matches for the Pride, accumulating 989 career assists, second-most in program history. This past season, he earned 512 assists, tied for third most in a single season in program history. He reached double figures in assists in 19 of the last 20 matches, with a season high of 36 assists against SUNY Potsdam March 11. He also picked up 35 assists during the team's 3-1 victory at Emmanuel March 26, the first win ever for the Pride over the Saints. A two-time Academic All-GNAC honoree, he graduated with his bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering from Regis.

One of this year's captains, Shane Phillip (Brockton, Mass.) appeared in 72 sets within 33 matches for the Pride during his collegiate career. During the February 5 tri-match, he earned three kills and one dig against Dean, followed by two kills and one dig against NVU Johnson. He posted career-high totals of four kills and five digs at Dean March 12. As the libero against nationally ranked Wentworth April 2, Phillip collected two digs. During a thrilling five-set victory over Emerson April 2, 2019, Shane finished with four service aces and two digs. Heavily involved within the Regis community, Phillip received his bachelor's degree in biology.

Dimitri Stewart (Paterson, N.J.) appeared in 93 sets within 40 matches during his Regis playing career. In a five-set match at Eastern Nazarene Jan. 30, 2020, he posted a .400 hitting percentage as he finished with nine kills, two service aces, and four total blocks. Later that season, Stewart collected five kills in consecutive matches against Johnson & Wales and Dean College. Earlier this year at Dean, he earned three kills and three digs. He hit .500 as he collected five kills and two digs against Wentworth April 2. An active member of the Regis community, Stewart graduated with his bachelor's degree in business management.

The Regis College men's volleyball team collected 12 victories during the 2022 season and posted a 7-9 record within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The Pride finished in a tie for fifth place in the league and qualified for the GNAC Tournament for the first time since entering the conference in 2017-18.
