Three School Records Highlight Season Finale for Pride Track & Field

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Members of the Regis College track and field team concluded the 2022-23 season by competing at the New England Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday, May 4, through Saturday, May 6, at Blake Track on the campus of Springfield College.

Brett Kiesel (Rocky Hill, Conn.) broke his own school record in the decathlon by over 250 points, finishing second with 5,608 points for All-New England honors. He started Thursday with a collegiate-best time of 11.74 seconds in the 100 meter dash, followed by a mark of 6.05 meters (19' 10.25") in the long jump to move into second place.

After solid performances in the shot put and high jump, he posted a time of 52.52 seconds in the 400 meter dash to end the first day of the event in third place. After a collegiate-best time of 18.99 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles Friday, he posted the best marks among the decathlon competitors in the discus throw at 33.55 meters (110' 1") and the javelin throw by close to 10 meters at 54.33 meters (178' 3") on his way to the second place finish.

In the pole vault Saturday, Conrad Kalinowski (London, England) cleared 4.29 meters (14' 0.75") on his first attempt to break his own outdoor school record in that event, 3.5 inches higher than the previous standard of 4.20 meters established two weeks ago. Kalinowski also earned All-New England honors as he finished sixth in the event.

In Regis' final event of the entire season, AJ Corso (Broad Brook, Conn.), Riley Stogsdill (San Diego, Calif.), Michael Carroll (Lynn, Mass.), and Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.) broke the outdoor school record in the 4x800 meter relay, combining for an overall time of 8:37.62. That time is over three seconds faster than the previous record established just last weekend at the GNAC Outdoor Championships.

After completing the decathlon Friday, Kiesel competed in the javelin throw and finished in 16th place with a top mark of 49.80 meters (163' 4") accomplished on his third and final attempt. As a team, the Regis men finished in a tie for 21st place with 11 points.

Representing the Regis women, Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) finished in 16th place in the 10,000 meter run Friday evening with a time of 40:58.19. Saturday, Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) crossed the finish line in 12th place in the 5000 meter run with a time of 18:31.59.

The Regis College cross country and track and field teams were extremely competitive within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) during the 2022-23 academic year. The Pride women won the GNAC Indoor Track and Field Championship and finished second in the league in both cross country and outdoor track and field. The Regis men placed fourth in cross country as well as second in both indoor track and field and outdoor track and field.
