Six Individual Event Titles Pace Men’s Track & Field at GNACs

STANDISH, Maine – The Regis College men's track and field team picked up six event titles on its way to a second place overall finish at the 2023 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Saint Joseph's College Saturday and Sunday, April 29-30.

Conrad Kalinowski (London, England) led the Pride with three event victories, first winning the hammer throw Saturday with a mark of 33.11 meters (108' 8"), followed by Aiden Charles (Lowell, Mass.) in second place at 32.78 meters (107' 7"). Sunday, Kalinowski finished first in the pole vault after clearing 3.50 meters (11' 5.75") and the shot put at 10.78 meters (35' 4.5"), with Brett Kiesel (Rocky Hill, Conn.) placing second at 10.34 meters (33' 11") and Bryan Abreu (Haverhill, Mass.) finishing fifth at 9.56 meters (31' 4.5").

Justin Thuotte (Lebanon, Conn.) collected two GNAC gold medals with first place finishes in the long jump at 6.21 meters (20' 4.5") and the triple jump at 12.52 meters (41' 1"), plus he finished third in the high jump after clearing 1.75 meters (5' 9"). In the javelin throw, Kiesel finished second with a mark of 44.98 meters (147' 7"), followed by Kalinowski in third at 39.27 meters (128' 10").

On the track, Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.) outstretched Devin Abbott of Saint Joseph's College at the finish of the 1500 meter run, winning by 7/100ths of a second with a time of 4:22.93. He also finished third in the 800 meter run in 2:11.45 and fifth in the 5000 meter run in 17:33.69.

Zach Sigman (Buffalo, N.Y.) broke his own school record in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:51.96, good enough to finish third. Sigman also scored for the Pride with a fifth place finish in the 10,000 meter run in 37:07.08.

In the 110 meter hurdles, Harry Grayson (Lowell, Mass.) finished second with a time of 16.96 seconds, followed by Charles in third place in 17.36 seconds. Grayson also finished fifth in both the long jump at 5.93 meters (19' 5.5") and the high jump after clearing 1.60 meters (5' 3").

Riley Stogsdill (San Diego, Calif.) picked up All-GNAC honors with a third place finish in the 400 meter dash in 54.20 seconds, with Kiesel finishing fifth in 55.30 seconds. Chris Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.) crossed the finish line third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.09.

Saturday evening, the quartet of Stogsdill, AJ Corso (Broad Brook, Conn.), Margiatto, and Happenny broke the school record in the 4x800 meter relay with an overall time of 8:41.04 to finish second. In the last event of the meet Sunday, the 4x400 meter relay team of Zachary Olayiwole (Marlborough, Mass.), Corso, Margiatto, and Stogsdill also finished second in 3:52.57.

Host Saint Joseph's College pulled away late to earn the overall team title with 213 points, followed by the Pride with 185 points.

Those who have qualified will be eligible to compete at the New England Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships next weekend, May 4-6, at Springfield College.
