Two School Records Pace Men’s Track and Field at Pre-Conference Meet

WESTON, Mass. - Thanks to two school records and several other strong performances, the Regis College men's track and field team came out victorious at the Regis Pre-Conference Meet Saturday at Regis Stadium.

The javelin throw was highlighted by Brett Kiesel's (Rocky Hill, Conn.) school-record mark of 57.93 meters (190' 1") accomplished on his final throw of the day. He shattered his previous school record mark set just two weeks ago by over six meters and moves into 17th place on the national NCAA Division III performance list in the event.

Conrad Kalinowski (London, England) improved upon his own outdoor school record in the pole vault, winning the event after clearing 4.20 meters (13' 9.25") on his first attempt at that height. In addition, he led the Pride in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.71 seconds to end up in third place overall in that event, plus he finished second in the hammer throw at 32.80 meters (107' 7") and third in the javelin throw at 45.19 meters (148' 3").

Kiesel also won the long jump by almost a quarter of a meter with a mark of 6.19 meters (20' 3.75") and finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 10.73 meters (35' 2.5"). Back in the hammer throw after Kalinowski, Aiden Charles (Lowell, Mass.) came close to his collegiate-best mark, finishing third at 32.01 meters (105' 0"), and Ed Power (Lynn, Mass.) placed fourth with a collegiate-best mark of 27.43 meters (90' 0").

Justin Thuotte (Lebanon, Conn.) won the triple jump by close to two full meters with a mark of 12.51 meters (41' 0.5"), plus he finished third in the pole vault after clearing 3.45 meters (11' 3.75") and sixth in both the discus throw at 32.94 meters (108' 1") and the javelin throw at 37.05 meters (121' 7"), with Charles just ahead of him in the discus throw at 33.35 meters (109' 5").

Harry Grayson (Lowell, Mass.) won the high jump after clearing 1.75 meters (5' 8.75") on his first attempt at that height, plus he finished fifth in the 100 meter dash in 11.77 seconds. The Pride went 2-3-4 in the 400 meter dash, led by AJ Corso (Broad Brook, Conn.) in second place with a time of 57.78 seconds, followed by Liam Austin (Boston, Mass.) in 58.12 seconds and Zachary Olayiwole (Marlborough, Mass.) in fourth place in 58.20 seconds.

Chris Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.) won the 400 meter hurdles by over three seconds with a time of 1:01.43. In the 800 meter run, Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.) finished in second place in 2:03.66, followed by Riley Stogsdill (San Diego, Calif.) in third place in 2:07.43. Zach Sigman (Buffalo, N.Y.) improved his collegiate-best 5000 meter time by 18.5 seconds, crossing the finish line in third at 17:32.04.

As a team, the Pride finished with 188 points, ending up ahead of Maine-Presque Isle with 103 points. After the meet, seniors Michael Carroll (Lynn, Mass.), Corso, Kiesel, Ben O'Neal (New Britain, Conn.), and Jacob O'Neal (New Britain, Conn.) were honored in Senior Day ceremonies.

The Regis College track and field team heads to Standish, Maine, for the GNAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Saint Joseph's College next weekend, April 29 and 30.
