Brett Kiesel Breaks Decathlon School Record to Lead Pride Track and Field

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Senior Brett Kiesel (Rocky Hill, Conn.) added almost 400 points to the school record in the decathlon, leading Regis College's participation in the Carla Coffey Invitational, hosted by Smith College Friday and Saturday, April 14-15.

Kiesel qualified for the New England Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in early May with a school-record total of 5,354 points, finishing fifth in the event. After completing day one with 2,891 points, he posted a collegiate-best time of 19.47 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles and finished second among the competitors in the discus throw at 32.92 meters (108' 0") and in the javelin throw at 45.51 meters (149' 4").

Conrad Kalinowski (London, England) tied his outdoor school record in the pole vault after clearing 4.15 meters (13' 7.25") to finish sixth in the event. Kalinowski also led the Regis men in the shot put with a mark of 11.05 meters (36' 3") accomplished on his final attempt.

Ed Power (Lynn, Mass.) improved upon his collegiate-best mark in the javelin throw, finishing 10th at 31.87 meters (104' 7"). Bryan Abreu (Haverhill, Mass.) notched a personal collegiate-best mark of 23.94 meters (78' 6") in the discus throw, plus he finished 21st overall in the shot put with a mark of 9.35 meters (30' 8.25").

On the track, Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.) improved his personal collegiate-best time in the 1500 meter run by almost three full seconds, completing the event in 4:17.47, less than a second off the school record. Harry Grayson (Lowell, Mass.) posted personal collegiate-best times of 16.41 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles, finishing 12th overall, and 24.07 seconds in the 200 meter dash.

The quartet of Zachary Olayiwole (Marlborough, Mass.), Chris Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.), AJ Corso (Broad Brook, Conn.), and Riley Stogsdill (San Diego, Calif.) finished seventh in the 4x400 meter relay with an overall time of 3:44.26. Olayiwole led the Pride with an outdoor-best time of 23.57 seconds in the 200 meter dash, while Stogsdill was the top Regis finisher in the 400 meter dash with an outdoor-best time of 52.31 seconds.

The Regis College track and field team will host the Pre-Conference Meet next Saturday, April 22, beginning at 10 a.m. at Regis Stadium. After the meet, the seniors on this year's squad will be honored for their contributions to the program.
