Pride Men’s Track and Field Wins Regis Spring Classic

WESTON, Mass. – Three school records fell Thursday as the Regis College men's track and field team hosted the Regis Spring Classic on campus, winning the overall team title at the meet.

Brett Kiesel (Rocky Hill, Conn.) not only broke his own school record in the javelin throw, but he also qualified for the New England Division III Track and Field Championships. He won the event with a mark of 51.90 meters (170' 3") accomplished on his final throw, over four meters further than the previous standard he established last year.

Zach Sigman (Buffalo, N.Y.) broke the school record in the 3000 meter steeplechase in his first participation in the event at the collegiate level. Sigman finished first in the event with a time of 11:02.93, over 12 seconds faster than the previous record established nine years and one day ago.

Justin Thuotte (Lebanon, Conn.) led a 1-2-3 Regis finish in the long jump, establishing a new school record with a mark of 6.44 meters (21' 1.5"), 0.17 meters further than the previous record. Harry Grayson (Lowell, Mass.) finished in second place with a mark of 6.29 meters (20' 7.75"), followed by Kiesel in third place at 6.21 meters (20' 4.5").

Thoutte also won the high jump after clearing 1.80 meters (5' 10.75"). In the 100 meter dash, Grayson finished second with a time of 11.58 seconds, followed by Thuotte in fourth place in 11.71 seconds.

Kiesel placed first in the pole vault after clearing 3.40 meters (11' 1.75"), while Grayson also finished second in the 110 meter hurdles in 16.79 seconds, followed by Aiden Charles (Lowell, Mass.) in third place in 17.47 seconds. In the discus throw, Kiesel finished fifth with a mark of 34.43 meters (113' 0"), while Charles ended up seventh at 33.45 meters (109' 9").

Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.) won the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:20.20, plus he finished third in the 800 meter run in 2:11.59, followed by Riley Stogsdill (San Diego, Calif.) in fourth place in 2:14.47. Happenny anchored the 4x400 meter relay, teaming with Chris Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.), Michael Carroll (Lynn, Mass.), and AJ Corso (Broad Brook, Conn.) to post a time of 3:49.64, less than a second behind Mass Maritime in a competitive race.

In the team standings, the Pride finished first with 140 points, followed by Mass Maritime with 122 points and Brandeis with 108 points.

Select members of the Regis track and field team will compete at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College next Friday, April 14. The team will also participate at the Carla Coffey Invitational hosted by Smith College next Saturday, April 15.
