Men’s Track & Field Travels to Bridgewater State for Outdoor Opener

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - After a second place finish at last month's GNAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Regis College men's track and field team began the outdoor season at the BSU Bears Invitational, hosted Saturday by Bridgewater State University at Swenson Field.

Zachary Olayiwole (Marlborough, Mass.) won his heat of the 100 meter dash by 11/100ths of a second with a time of 12.22 seconds, while Conrad Kalinowski (London, England) placed second in his heat with a time of 12.28 seconds. Riley Stogsdill (San Diego, Calif.) finished 10th overall in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:13.61 and 11th in the 200 meter dash in 24.12 seconds.

In the 400 meter dash, Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.) led the Pride by finishing 12th overall in 55.60 seconds, followed by Justin Thuotte (Lebanon, Conn.) in 18th place in 58.55 seconds and Chris Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.) in 20th place in 58.80 seconds. The quartet of Liam Austin (Boston, Mass.), Aiden Charles (Lowell, Mass.), Kalinowski, and Stogsdill finished second in their heat of the 4x100 meter relay with an overall time of 47.33 seconds.  

Zach Sigman (Buffalo, N.Y.) completed the 5000 meter run with a personal collegiate-best time of 17:50.54, over 20 seconds better than his previous best time. Also in the 800 meter run, Michael Carroll (Lynn, Mass.) finished 17th overall with a time of 2:19.34, just ahead of AJ Corso (Broad Brook, Conn.) in 19th place with a time of 2:20.06.

In the field events, Brett Kiesel (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finished 12th in the discus throw with a mark of 31.98 meters (104' 11"), plus he led the Pride in the shot put with a top mark of 10.37 meters (34' 0.25"). Charles finished 20th in the hammer throw with a mark of 27.16 meters (89' 1"), while Thuotte was the top Regis finisher in the javelin throw at 30.91 meters (101' 5") as well as placing 13th in the long jump with a mark of 5.59 meters (18' 4.25").

The Regis College track and field team continues the outdoor season next Saturday, April 1, at the Snowflake Classic hosted by Tufts University in Somerville, Mass., beginning at 10 a.m.
