Three Pride Runners Break Program Record In The Mile At Hemery Invitational

BOSTON - Not one, not two but three runners broke the program record in the mile to highlight the Regis (Mass.) men's track and field team's showing at the David Hemery Invitational hosted by Boston University on Saturday at the BU Track & Tennis Center.

Kyle Gillen-Hughes (Reading, Mass.) ran the best of the three to become the program's record holder with a time of 4:38.41, also nine seconds faster than his previous personal best. Jovan Sematimba (Burlington, Mass.) was the second Pride runner to cross the finish line, doing so in a time of 4:41.29 with Sean Toomey (Salem, N.H.) running the race in 4:43.09 minutes.

Also in the mile, JJ Pedersen (Milford, Conn.) and Nicholas Sahagian (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) ran personal best times of 4:45.02 and 4:52.08 with Shane Romanchick (Trumbull, Conn.) running the race in 4:59.37 minutes.

In other track events, Fred Mathieu (Miami, Fla.) broke his personal best by two seconds (51.72) in the 400 meter with Matthew Malone (West Roxbury, Mass.) placing 12th overall (9.04) in the 60 meter hurdles.

Frank Pelleteri (Freeport, Maine) and Dan LaFlamme (Watertown, Conn.) competed in the shot put competition, throwing 12.77 and 12.55 meters, respectively.

With the indoor regular season complete, members of the Pride men's and women's teams set their sights on the qualifiers meet of the Division III Indoor New England Championships held next Saturday (Feb. 17) and Sunday (Feb. 18).
