Robert Wood Collects GNAC Rookie of Week Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. ­– Regis College freshman Robert Wood (Cathedral City, Calif.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season after earning multiple All-New England honors for his performance at last weekend's NEISDA Championships.

Wood began his participation at the New England meet Friday, finishing second in the 500 freestyle with a season-best time of 4:50.80. He followed that with a sixth place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:05.17.

Saturday, Wood first anchored the 200 medley relay to a ninth place finish overall, posting a 50 free split of 22.81 seconds to lead the team to victory in the consolation final in 1:45.20. He earned another season-best time in the 200 freestyle, finishing fourth in 1:46.53, and then he anchored the 200 freestyle relay to an eighth place finish with an overall time of 1:32.65 after a 50 free split of 22.57 seconds.

Sunday, he capped the weekend and the 2019-20 season by posting the team's fastest 100 freestyle time of the year, leading off the 400 freestyle relay in the preliminaries with a split of 50.25 seconds. In total, Wood accounted for 45 points in individual events and was part of another 40 points in the relays as Regis ended up in eighth place at the NEISDA Championships.

With the final weekly rookie award of the season, Wood tied Evan Whaley of Saint Joseph's College with four rookie honors this year.
