Robert Wood Receives GNAC Rookie of Week Honor

WINTHROP, Mass. – Freshman Robert Wood (Cathedral City, Calif.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

Wood picked up a key victory to lead Regis past Colby-Sawyer in Saturday's dual meet. In the 100 freestyle, Wood touched the wall first with a time of 52.15 seconds, less than 8/10ths of a second ahead of Colby-Sawyer's top finisher. Wood also posted a time of 1:54.80 in the 200 freestyle and a personal season-best mark of 2:09.37 in the 200 individual medley.

Wood is being honored by the conference for the third time this season, previously picking up Rookie of the Week recognition in back-to-back weeks Oct. 14 and Oct. 21. On the GNAC performance list, he is currently first in the league in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, fifth in the 200 individual medley, and within the top 10 in seven other events.

The Regis College swimming and diving teams will close the regular season with a dual meet at Elms College in Chicopee, Mass., Saturday, Jan. 18, starting at 10 a.m.
