Men’s Swim & Dive Places Fourth at RWU Invite

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Regis College men's swimming and diving team ended the day strong as it competed in the Roger Williams Invitational, hosted by the Hawks Saturday at the RWU Aquatics Center.

In the final event of the meet, the Pride finished second in the 400 freestyle relay with a total time of 3:33.42. GianCarlos Banrey (Roslindale, Mass.) led off for Regis with a 100 free split of 50.94 seconds, followed by Brendan Pike (Weymouth, Mass.) at 55.12 seconds. Grant Kollien (Acton, Mass.) completed the third 100 free leg in 54.72 seconds, and Robert Wood (Cathedral City, Calif.) anchored the relay with a 100 free split of 52.64 seconds.

The same quartet also started the meet by finishing fourth in the 200 medley relay, with Banrey posting a leadoff 50 back split of 26.80 seconds. After Pike swam the 50 breast in 31.02 seconds and Kollien completed the 50 fly in 28.28 seconds, Wood finished off the race with a 50 free split of 24.51 seconds for a total time of 1:50.61.

Individually, Wood produced the best results for the Regis men, finishing ninth in the 200 individual medley in 2:11.72 and 10th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.91. Pike finished 13th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:58.39 and 15th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.36, just behind Wood in 13th place in 1:08.39.

In the 200 freestyle relay, the foursome of Michael Case (Watertown, Mass.), Noah Toumayan-Miller (Natick, Mass.), Luke Jubinville (Fall River, Mass.), and Gueincy Clodomir (Pembroke Park, Fla.) finished fourth with a total time of 1:44.75.

As a team, the Regis men finished fourth out of six teams with 120 points. Host Roger Williams easily won the team title with 1,030.5 points.

Regis returns to competition next week, opening the home schedule with a dual meet against Bridgewater State starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Regis Pool.
