Regis Swimmers Sweep GNAC Weekly Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. – After a convincing victory Saturday over Saint Joseph's College in which it posted the best time in every event, the Regis men's swimming and diving team swept the weekly awards from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference for the second time this season, as announced Monday by the league office.

Grant Kollien (Acton, Mass.), a four-time GNAC Rookie of the Week last year, wins his first weekly award this season as he earned GNAC Male Athlete of the Week honors. Meanwhile, for the second time in three weeks, GianCarlos Banrey (Roslindale, Mass.) received GNAC Male Rookie of the Week recognition.

Kollien won three events Saturday, starting with the 1000 freestyle by over seven seconds with a time of 11:09.15, a season-best mark not just for himself, but also for the team. Less than five minutes later, he won the 200 freestyle by a half-second with a time of 1:59.74. His third victory of the day came in the 500 freestyle with another season-best mark, winning in 5:27.04.

Banrey finished first in three individual events and took part in a winning relay Saturday. First, he posted a 50 fly split of 23.97 seconds to help his 200 medley relay team finish first with an overall time of 1:46.83. Banrey won the 100 butterfly by almost six full seconds with a time of 54.63 seconds, followed by a win in the 100 freestyle in 52.08 seconds. He capped the day by touching the wall first in the 50 butterfly in 24.26 seconds.
