Pride Swimmers Perform Well at RWU Invitational

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Regis College swimming and diving teams put together strong performances at the Roger Williams Invitational, with the women's team finishing in second place with 71 points and the men's squad ending up in third place with 61 points.

GianCarlos Banrey (Roslindale, Mass.) picked up Regis's only victory of the meet, winning the 50 freestyle in 22.94 seconds, the eighth-fastest time in program history. Banrey touched the wall 2/100ths of a second ahead of the second-place finisher and 5/100ths of a second in front of the third-place swimmer.

Banrey also joined with Kevin Dugue (Roslindale, Mass.), Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.), and Connor Schwarze (Melrose, Mass.) for a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay in 1:46.01. In addition, he finished fourth in the 100 freestyle in 50.96 seconds, and he led off the 400 freestyle relay, partnering with Unas, Grant Kollien (Acton, Mass.), and Schwarze for a third-place finish with a time of 3:31.25.

Unas finished fifth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:10.95 and third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.81. The 200 freestyle relay squad of Kollien, Dugue, Gueincy Clodomir (Pembroke Park, Fla.), and Paul Brennan (Rumford, R.I.) finished in fourth place with a time of 1:40.10.

The women led off with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay, as Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.), Thalia Bowie (Lexington, Mass.), Alexa Lancisi (Milford, Mass.), and Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.) combined for a time of 2:00.92. Zernitsky also finished in a tie for second place in the 50 freestyle with a mark of 26.42 seconds, while Lancisi finished fifth in the 100 butterfly in 1:07.64.

Kyleigh Boatwright (Roseville, Calif.) finished third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.58 and fifth in the 100 freestyle in 58.45 seconds, plus she anchored the 400 freestyle relay, posting an unofficial split of 57.93 seconds as she joined with Leonard, Lancisi, and Gloria Sutton (Suffield, Conn.) for a time of 3:59.52, ending up second in the event.

Regis next heads to Bridgewater State for a dual meet Saturday, Oct. 27, starting at 2 p.m. Besides the Bears, the Pride women will also face Eastern Connecticut State.
