Swimming And Diving Takes Part In Nationwide Tread-A-Thon

WESTON, Mass. – In a special event Wednesday, the Regis (Mass.) swimming and diving teams joined forces with many other college teams and organizations around the country for the Tread-A-Thon hoping to set a new Guinness World Record for "Most People Treading Water at the Same Time in Multiple Locations".

The event is part of the International Water Safety Foundation's focus on raising awareness about the global drowning pandemic, building a culture of learning to swim, and preventing drownings. Overall 48 teams and schools from around the country took part in the event.

"It was great to be part of such an important initiative," said swimming and diving head coach James Sweeney. "I know our student-athletes had a good time with it and were happy to do their part as well."

Regis did their part indeed with the required 25 participants as Pride swimmers and divers along with men's lacrosse coach Randy Fraser treaded water in the pool for 30 minutes.

On hand for the official record keeping were required witnesses Mark Clemente, Regis Associate Athletic Director and game operations assistant Chris Avery, as well as Dean of Athletics Pam Roecker who served as the steward.

Regis also streamed and captured the event on Facebook Live for official documentation.

The International Water Safety Foundation is a non-profit organization raising drowning awareness while bringing basic swimming, water safety, and safe rescue skills to children in developing countries.
