Swimming & Diving Claims Three of Four GNAC Weekly Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. - Regis (Mass.) swimming & diving seniors Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.) and Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) were named men's and women's Great Northeast Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week, while freshman Grant Kollien (Acton, Mass.) was named the men's GNAC Rookie of the Week. The announcement came from the conference office on Monday.

The award is Rainville's third GNAC Athlete of the Week in just four weeks of eligibility. Rainville won six events for the Pride in its team win over Saint Joseph’s (Me.) - the 100 IM (57.99), 500 free (5:08.67), 200 medley relay (1:48.66), 200 fly (2:07.87), 50 fly (24.42) and 400 medley relay (4:01.55).

Higgins becomes the first Pride swimmer on the women's side to win a GNAC weekly award in 2017-18. Higgins won six events to help the Pride to a dual meet win over Saint Joseph’s (Me.) on Friday and Saturday. She won the 50 free (25.70), 100 back (1:04.41), 200 free relay (1:20.80), 50 (29.50) and 200 (2:18.61) backstroke races, and then took top honors in the 50 butterfly (28.04).

Kollien wins his first GNAC Rookie of the Week award this week. Kollien helped the Pride to the dual meet win over Saint Joseph’s (Me.), placing firt in the 1650 freestyle (18:35.42), second in the 200 free (1:58.25) and 500 free (5:29.41) and third in both the 200 butterfly (2:31.18) and 200 backstroke (2:24.26).

The Pride will be off until after the Thanksgiving break, but will be back in the pool on December 2 and 3 for the GNAC Championships, hosted by Simmons College.
