Swimming & Diving Earns CSCAA Spring Academic All-America Honors

NORFOLK, Va. - The Regis (Mass.) men's and women's swimming and diving teams were both named to the 2018 College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Spring Scholar All-America teams. The men’s team posted the 34th (3.20) highest GPA in the nation among Division III schools with the women the 44th (3.29) highest.

In total, 720 teams representing 443 institutions, achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the Spring 2018 Semester. Part of the reason for the increase in award-winning teams is the overall growth of the sport. The number of men's and women's institutions sponsoring swimming and diving is at a ten-year high.

Among teams with a dozen or more student-athletes, on the women's side Saint Francis (PA) led the nation with a 3.81 GPA. Grand Canyon University posted a 3.66 for the highest GPA among men's programs with a dozen or more participants. Transylvania's women's team (3.79) and Caltech's men (3.63) led Division III programs with twelve or more participants.

Both Pride team received a handful of individual honors earlier this month when the GNAC annouced its 2017-18 academic team. Caoilinn Bassignani, Amy Collins, Kasey Gagnon, Sarah Leonard, Katherine Mariano, Ryan Moran and Lila Williams were recognized on the women’s side with Michael Bruno, Ryan Tinney and Josh Unas earning spots on the men’s team.
