WENHAM, Mass. - The Regis College cross country team returned to competition Saturday by participating in the Pop Crowell Invitational on the Gordon College campus.
The Regis women competed over a six-kilometer course for the first time this season and Aubrey Heise (Mattapoisett, Mass.) once again led the way for the Pride, finishing in 26th overall with a time of 25:58.4, averaging just under seven minutes per mile. Jonnie Charest (Methuen, Mass.) was next for Regis, crossing the finish line in 45th place overall in 28:33.9.
Abby Kilbride (Peabody, Mass.) completed the course with a time of 30:32.7 to finish 55th overall, just ahead of Olivia Mmamelu (Waltham, Mass.) in 57th place in 30:48.9 and Annabelle Jean-Philippe (Randolph, Mass.) in 63rd place in 32:15.6. As a team, the Pride placed seventh with 216 points, with Wellesley earning the team title thanks to placing six runners in the top 15.
On the men's side, Benjamin Happenny (Woonsocket, R.I.) placed 21st overall with an eight-kilometer time of 29:05.5. Riley Stogsdill (San Diego, Calif.) was the next Pride runner to finish the race, ending up in 30th place with a time of 29:48.9, his personal-best eight-kilometer time by close to three minutes.
Kederson Pierre (Everett, Mass.) put together a strong finish as he completed the course in 33:57.6, his best time over eight kilometers by three minutes. Brian LaPorte (Bridgewater, Mass.) posted a time of 34:27.3 in his first collegiate eight-kilometer race, followed by fellow newcomer Ben Myette (Hanson, Mass.) in 37:36.3. Chris Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.) finished the event with a time of 37:53.7.
The Regis men finished in eighth place in the team standings with 209 points. Franklin Pierce cruised to the team title by placing five runners in the top 10, with Endicott topping the field among Division III schools.
Regis College heads to the Robert Dowd Cross Country Course for the UMass Dartmouth Invitational next Saturday, Sept. 21, with the men's eight-kilometer race scheduled to start at 11:15 a.m., followed by the women's five-kilometer event at 12 p.m.
