PREVIEW: Pride Set For First GNAC Cross Country Championships

WESTON, Mass. - After several seasons of success in the NECC, the Regis (Mass.) men's and women's cross country teams will compete in their first-ever Great Northeast Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships held Saturday, Oct. 28 at Colt State Park in Bristol, R.I. The men's competition will be an 8K race with the women's a 5K.

"The vibe is good," said head coach Kourtney Bonsey who is in her second season with the Pride. "We've suffered a little bit with injuries but everyone should be good to go for Saturday. Everyone is pretty excited."

"We're very excited and have worked hard through the entire season," added junior Maddie Boucias. "It looks like it will be a tight competition but we're still hopeful we can win the conference."

The team had a chance to visit the course and evaluate the terrain and is well aware of its challenges. "The first part there are a lot of routes but we can't focus on that but only the person in front of us," said junior Shane Romanchick." After the first mile it opens up but the last two miles are completely out in the open and you can lose yourself in it so you just have to stay focused."

The men's field is made up of 10 teams; Anna Maria, Emmanuel, Johnson & Wales, Lasell, Mount Ida, Norwich, Rivier, Saint Joseph's of Maine, Suffolk and Regis. All 10 teams will compete in the women's field as well along with Simmons and the University of St. Joseph.
