WESTON, Mass. - The Regis College women's tennis team produced its best result of the fall 2024 season, but Albertus Magnus College was able to come from behind for a 5-4 victory Tuesday evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest at the Regis Tennis Courts.
The Pride won two of three doubles sets, starting in the number three position when first-year player Shyann Teixeira Kellam (Boston, Mass.) teamed with newcomer Jaimy Gomez for an 8-6 victory. At number one doubles, the veteran duo of Akshita Duvvuri (Chennai, India) and Harmony Lopez (Carlsbad, N.M.) fought to a tiebreaker that needed extra points before the Pride finally prevailed, 13-11.
After the Falcons tied the match at 2-2, Regis completed its two singles victories, beginning with Alexandra Nicholls-Millen (Natick, Mass.) at number four singles with a straight-set victory (6-2, 6-0). Gomez would win her first collegiate singles match at number five singles, also in straight sets (6-1, 6-2), to extend the Pride advantage to 4-2.
Albertus Magnus was able to win the final three singles matches to be completed, all in straight sets. Shawna Glasgow won in the sixth position, JuJu Oliver earned the victory in the number one position, and Osiana Brown clinched the overall match for the Falcons with her win at number two singles.
Regis College (0-7, 0-4 GNAC) is looking to play a couple dual matches during the spring 2025 portion of the schedule, but those have not been finalized yet. With the victory, Albertus Magnus (1-8, 1-3 GNAC) clinches the fourth seed in the upcoming GNAC Women's Tennis Tournament and will face top seed Colby-Sawyer College Saturday, Oct. 12.
