Kiana Thompson Named GNAC Women’s Tennis Player of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – After a dominating week in which she lost just one game in two singles matches, sophomore Kiana Thompson (Boynton Beach, Fla.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week, announced Monday, Oct. 2, by the league office.

Thompson was a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles over the past week, starting last Tuesday with a hard-fought 8-5 victory at the number one doubles position along with Stephanie Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) against Suffolk University. Thompson then cruised to a straight-set victory at number one singles (6-1, 6-0) to lead the Pride past the Rams, 8-1.

Wednesday against conference foe Albertus Magnus, Thompson again teamed with Beatrice and earned an 8-2 victory at number one doubles. She then won her singles match in the number one position without losing a game (6-0, 6-0) as the Pride defeated the Falcons, 9-0.

Thompson, the 2022 GNAC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, improved to 14-1 in collegiate singles competition and 15-3 in doubles play since starting her career last fall. This is her second career GNAC Player of the Week honor after first picking up the award Oct. 17, 2022.

Regis College (4-2, 1-1 GNAC) heads to Colby-Sawyer College to face the Chargers Wednesday, Oct. 4, starting at 3:30 p.m. The Pride are also talking to University of Saint Joseph about rescheduling the home match originally set for this past Saturday, Sept. 30, but postponed due to wet court conditions.
